New 2008 Pierce Quantum 105’ Heavy Duty Aerial Ladder Truck Unveiled

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Fire Commissioner Gary Cassanelli, Fire Department Officials, Staff and Students from Kensington Avenue School participated in the unveiling of the Springfield Fire Department’s newest piece of apparatus.

The new fire truck will replace a 1982 Maxim Tiller Ladder #3 presently housed at the Oakland Street Fire Station.  The new truck will operate out of the soon to be constructed White Street Fire Station at White and Vermont Street.  The truck is presently being outfitted with custom equipment and firefighter training will be scheduled on the vehicle before it is place in service.

The new Aerial Ladder #3 was obtained through a 2007 Fire Act Grant federal award of $600,000.

The City of Springfield extends its appreciation for congressional support of this grant to Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Senator John F. Kerry, and Congressman Richard E. Neal.
