Property Auction Raises $767,000

The City of Springfield in conjunction with Daniel J. Flynn & Co. Auctioneers of Quincy auctioned twenty-two properties in tax-title possession Thursday, January 17, 2008.  The Auctions were conducted ballroom-style, at Springfield City Hall located at 36 Court Street, Springfield, MA.

One of the highest bids was $195,000 for a 41,000 square foot industrial zoned property won by Bruce Robinovitz of Somers, Connecticut. Several single and multi-family homes were won with bids ranging from $12,000 to $40,000. Bidders also needed to factor in a 5% buyers premium fee over their final bids.

City officials were pleased with the bidding total equaling $767,000 for the 22 properties. “The auction exceeded our goal of getting at least $500,000 for the properties,” said City Treasurer Salvatore Calvanese. “The strong bidder turnout was a factor to our success”.  Auctioneer Dan Flynn worked the bidders in the standing-room-only crowd for almost an hour and a half. “We sold all 22 properties on the block. People got some great deals, had fun and the city benefits with new owners paying taxes and taking care of the properties.”

Preliminary plans are now being discussed for Springfield’s next great auction this spring. Interested parties should check the city website or www.flynnauctions.com for upcoming announcements, open house schedules and property information.
