The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency presented the City of Springfield with a $400,000 check to be used to help revitalize former industrial and commercial sites, such as Chapman Valve in Indian Orchard. Springfield is one of 20 Massachusetts communities that were selected in a competitive national competition under EPA’s Brownfields program.

In its grant fact sheet, the EPA described the City of Springfield as "once home to Bee-Gee airplanes, Rolls Royce cars, and Indian motorcycles; a city with a proud tradition of manufacturing and invention." Read more from The Republican on MassLive.com.
