(SPRINGFIELD – October 19, 2007) - The Mayor’s Office of Consumer Information announced today that it has reached a self-imposed goal to save consumers more than $1 million in 2007.
For consumers, the $1 million savings has come in the form of refunds, savings or merchant agreements.
“We are thrilled to know we have had such a positive financial impact for not only Springfield residents but for citizens throughout Hampden and Hampshire counties,” said Milagros S. Johnson, director of the Mayor’s Office of Consumer Information. “Our commitment to consumers reflects in our accomplishment and we remain steadfast in our mission.”
Located in City Hall Room 315, the Mayor’s Office of Consumer Information is an extension of the Office of the Attorney General. The Office of the Attorney General funds the agency, though it relies heavily on in-kind contributions from the City of Springfield.
“We would not have been able to reach this ambitious goal without the support of Mayor Ryan,” said Milagros.
The office helps consumers settle disputes with a variety of vendors including: banks, retail outfits, credit card companies, home improvement contractors, automobile dealers and auto repair shops, among many others. There are 19 local consumer offices located throughout the Commonwealth. The Office provides consumer services at no cost.
A free consumer forum and listening tour will take place on Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Springfield City Hall.
