FY 2011 Adopted BudgetThe FY11 Adopted Budget which was passed by the City Council on June 21, 2010 is now posted online. The budget represents General Fund appropriations for City departments for FY11 which runs from July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011. All sorting is done at the facility, which means recycling has never been easier. Single Stream Recycling Carts will be delivered beginning the first week of August. Erdmann have announced the names of the individuals chosen to become the City’s new Chief Information Officer and Deputy Chief Information Officer. Andrew J. Doty of Springfield, Massachusetts has been chosen to fill the position vacated by former CIO Thomas Collins. More >> Giant Sneakers Arrive to Kick Off Arts & SolesCommunity leaders and artists were on hand to welcome the arrival of 20 six-foot high sneakers to be decorated and installed around downtown Springfield. The huge fiberglass footwear will serve as canvases for artists chosen through the Art & Soles public art project to answer the question, “What Makes Springfield Great?” More >>

More >> Finance Team Shows Progress to Ways & MeansOn May 5th, Mayor Sarno traveled to Boston to meet with the Senate Ways & Means Committee. The Mayor was invited there to discuss the success Springfield has had transitioning to local control and to provide ideas that both the State and other Communities can implement for stronger management. In addition, the meeting provided the opportunity to present the continued need of State Aid and its impact on a community like Springfield. More >> Report Crime Anonymously with Text-A-TipTo send an anonymous crime tip from any text-enabled phone: Springfield citizens can now text crime tips to the police safely and anonymously through the new Text-A-Tip program. The two-way text messaging system sends citizens' messages through an encrypted server in Canada, which allows 2-way text dialog while shielding the caller's number and identity from authorities. The Springfield Police Department is partnering with county, state and other regional authorities on this service. Springfield Receives EPA Climate Showcase GrantThe Environmental Protection Agency announced nearly $500,000 in grant money going to the City of Springfield to help the community increase energy efficiency, saving consumers money and reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions, at an event at the DeBerry Elementary School gymnasium on Monday, March 8, 2010. More >> Mayor Sarno Appoints a New City Library DirectorMayor Domenic J. Sarno has announced the appointment of Molly “Lee” Fogarty as Director of the Springfield City Library. Fogarty has been serving as Interim Library Director since August 5, 2009, after former Library Director Emily Bader retired after 36 years of dedicated service to the residents of Springfield. The Springfield Library Commission voted unanimously on February 3, 2010, that Lee Fogarty be recommended to Mayor Sarno for appointment as Library Director.
