City Hall will celebrate the start of Black History month with an African American heritage flag raising ceremony on Friday, February 1, 2008 on the steps of City Hall at 10 a.m.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, City Councilor Bud L. Williams and State Rep. Ben Swan will make remarks during the ceremony. The Rev. W.C. Watson will offer the invocation and benediction. E. Henry Twiggs will serve as Master of Ceremonies and other local community leaders will also participate.

During the brief ceremony, members of the Springfield Police Department and members of the Mason Square Veterans Group will assist in the flag raising.

Suez Temple  No. 114 will present the City Hall event.
