The City of Springfield will make real-time results available to the media and members of the public on Election Night, Sept. 18. The results will be made available as the votes are tallied via the city's website at www.springfieldcityhall.com.
Funding from the Springfield Media & Technology Group, Inc. has allowed the City's vote-counting software to be upgraded, improving the efficiency of the City's election process and allowing the public to watch online as the votes are tallied after the polls close.
Unity Election System Version 3, a product of Election Systems & Software (ES&S) of Omaha, NE, was installed in the Elections Office at City Hall in August 2006, and Elections and IT staff were trained by a representative from ES&S. The IT Department worked closely with the Elections Office to configure the necessary hardware, software and networking, and a test ballot was run over Labor Day weekend 2006.
The City web development team then programmed the online vote display based on the sample ballot returns. The new software was deployed during the September 19, 2006 state primary and general election, when the web team successfully tested real-time display of Springfield's voting tallies.
