Mayor Sarno Appoints Acting City Collector/Treasurer

MARCH 10, 2008 - Mayor Domenic J. Sarno today appointed Deputy Auditor Patrick S. Burns Acting City Collector/Treasurer.

Sarno made the appointment following a request for a personal family/medical leave from City Collector/Treasurer Salvatore Calvanese to Acting Chief Financial Officer Timothy J. Plante.

The appointment is required for the continued operation of government for a period of ninety days, subject to reappointments, not to exceed a total of one year.

Burns, a lifelong Springfield resident who lives at 90 Clement St., has 15 years of accounting experience with the City. He has held the title of Deputy City Auditor since 2004. Other capacities in which he has worked for the City include:  Internal Auditor in the Auditing Department and Budget Analyst in the Finance Department. Burns held the position of  Senior Accountant at Municipal Hospital from 1993 until 1995. He is a graduate of Cathedral High School and of Western New England College.

Said Mayor Sarno: "I have full confidence in the training and experience of Patrick Burns, who will continue to advance the city's aggressive tax revenue collection initiative and other priorities established under the leadership of Collector/Treasurer Calvanese. I wish Sal and his family good health."
