Ward Representation Info

The City of Springfield’s Election Office will be holding two more informational meetings on the change to Ward Representation. Anyone who is unsure of what the changes mean is encouraged to attend.

Dog Licenses

June 5, 2009: Last night all City of Springfield residents received a message regarding dog licenses that contained misinformation.  The message was sent in error and the City sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused.  No further action is required on the part of those residents who received the message.

The City has investigated the cause of this error to ensure that it will not happen again.  Any resident wishing to have their telephone number removed from the City’s broadcast system can call 3-1-1 or click the button below.




Staying Informed during a Pandemic: A Community Discussion

The Springfield Health Dept. wants your opinion! Please join a discussion session and help your local health officials figure out how to keep you informed during a flu outbreak. Make your voice heard! You will receive $50 if you attend. Refreshments will be served. Forest Park Library Branch Closing for Renovations

The Forest Park branch library at 380 Belmont Ave. is temporarily closing for renovation beginning June 8, 2009. Each level of the Forest Park Branch Library will soon be accessible to all, necessitating closing the branch until the end of October. Patrons may continue to use the book drop until June 29. Check the library website at www.springfieldlibrary.org for alternate branch locations and hours, Summer Reading Programs for kids, and more upcoming events. 


2009 Pool Pass Pre-Registration

Get ready for summer swimming.

Residents who wish to swim at Forest Park pool or any indoor pool sites this summer must have a Pools ID card to swim. Use your 2008 Pools ID card, or pre-register and then obtain a free photo ID from the Parks Dept. You must bring this Pool Pass with you whenever you go to a Springfield Pool. Each member of the family must have an ID card to swim, and at least one adult in a family must register in order for children from that family to register.

Start by filling out the pre-registration form, once for each family member, parent first. Print your form and bring it along to one of the photo ID Card sessions to get your photo ID card quickly.


PVTA Moves 3 Bus Stops on Main Street

As of Saturday, May 16, three PVTA bus stops on Main Street downtown are being relocated as follow:

Fort St. stop  is moving to 1550 Main St. (former Federal Building)
1350 Main St. stop is moving to Court Square
Falcons Way stop is moving to MassMutual Center (1277 Main St.)

More Fuel Assistance Help for 2009

Bay State Gas has announced that more home heating aid will be available to the public in 2009, as eligibility limits have been expanded. For more information, Springfield residents can call (413)552-1548 or visit www.baystategas.com


2009 Trash Fee Bills

Final trash bill for the current year will be mailed on March 9, 2009. These bills reflect the trash fee for the period October 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009, which is $67.50 unless you have a discount. If you have a balance due from the first quarter of FY 2009 or from FY 2008 these amounts due will also appear on your bill plus interest. More


U.S. Postal Service Solicits Public Comment

The U.S. Postal Service is conducting a study to determine whether some operations of the Springfield Processing & Distribution Center should be shifted to Hartford, and soliciting the public's input as part of the process. Financial Accountability is a top priority for the City of Springfield. With this goal in mind, the Office of the City Auditor has created a fraud hotline that can be used to report information about fraud, waste or abuse of City resources.

The city’s instant notification system is automatically set to call residents’ home phone or the main number of a Springfield business. However, residents and business owners may choose to add their cell phone number, email address and/or fax number to the City’s instant notification database. Messages will be sent to all of those communication devices in addition to your home phone number in the case of an emergency or other notification situation.

The City of Springfield's Department of Elder Affairs and Community Services Division have released the Springfield Senior Savings Guide, a pamphlet designed for the benefit of senior residents.  The guide's purpose is to provide seniors with information on savings and discounts throughout the City to which they are entitled.
