Marshall Roy Park

Marshall Roy Park is a 14 acre park located in the city’s Liberty Heights Neighborhood.  The park is used daily during the school year by the Pottenger Elementary School, and school and athletic teams from various programs use the fields during the afternoon and twilight hours.  With such high usage, this park was in need of renovation – the ball fields required improvements to satisfy various softball leagues and school athletic schedules; the existing backstops were in need of replacement to adequately protect both the users of the park, school children and nearby houses; and the player benches and trash receptacles were in disrepair as well as much of the fencing located around the park.

The Parks Department applied for and received grant money from the Urban Self-Help Program of the Commonwealth’s Division of Conservation Services for improvements that include four new ball fields, a new restroom facility, a new playground, and expanded parking lot.  A new handicap accessible bituminous path was installed from the parking lot to the restrooms.  Shade trees, a new 4 foot fence, irrigation, and renovated grass area compliment the new backstops, player benches, safety fencing for the player benches, and new trash receptacles.
