Springfield Goes GreenWith Earth Day approaching on Sunday, April 22, Mayor of the City of Springfield Charles V. Ryan; Chief Economic Developer David Panagore; Director of ReStore Home Improvement Center John Majercak; and Director of Keep of Springfield Beautiful Ivette Cruz held a press conference announcing the city’s many accomplishments, recognition and latest initiatives toward furthering its environmental commitments. Springfield’s ReStore, a nonprofit enterprise of the Center for Ecological Technology that accepts donated home improvement materials and sells them to the public at low prices, was recognized by Country Home magazine in April as a unique element to the city’s “green lifestyle.” The magazine ranked the Greater Springfield metropolitan area number one in the top 10 best green large cities nationwide.
