In-House Street Sweeping Set To Begin

Mayor Charles v. Ryan and authorities with the department of public works will unveil the city’s brand new sweeper trucks and announce the commencement of street sweeping during a press conference on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 3:30 p.m. at the DPW, 70 Tapley st.

Street sweerping functions once again belong to the city after Ryan terminated a contract with American sweeping co. On Sept. 30, saying the city could do a better job at a lower cost.

Ryan emphasized that by returning the duty to the DPW, the city will not only save money but also create employment opportunities.

City streets are expected to be swept three times a year, rather than the contractual two times with American sweeping. During the summer, downtown streets are expected to be swept almost weekly.
