SPRINGFIELD – Four Springfield public schools were placed in secure mode for a short time this morning, following police reports that an armed robbery had occurred in close proximity to those schools.
Springfield Central High School, Margaret C. Ells Elementary School, Roger L. Putnam Vocational-Technical High School and the Springfield High School of Science and Technology were placed in secure mode at around 10:30 a.m. following police reports that an armed robbery had taken place in Blunt Park.
The safety of students at these schools was at no time jeopardized. School officials ordered the secure mode, more commonly referred to as a lock down, as a precautionary measure to prevent students from entering or exiting the buildings while police conducted their investigation.
Schools remained in a secure mode for 10 to 30 minutes.
