June 12, 2008 - Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and University of Massachusetts Basketball Coach Derek Kellogg will hold a joint press conference on Monday, June 16th at 11 a.m. at the Dunbar Community Center to announce the summer 2008 Hoop Clinics for Kids.
"It's going to be a long hot summer and these clinics are a wonderful opportunity for our youth to stay active and positively engaged," said Sarno. "I am thankful to the University of Massachusetts and to Coach Kellogg and the UMASS basketball players for their commitment and contribution to our community," said Sarno.
Hoop Clinics for Kids, collaboration between the University of Massachusetts and the City of Springfield, is open to city residents ages 7 and older. For further information on the Hoop Clinics for Kids, including locations, dates and times, please see the attached flier.
During the press conference, the Mayor will also present Coach Kellogg with a "Key to the City." The Springfield Chamber of Commerce recently purchased a number of ceremonial "Keys to the City" and presented them to Sarno to bestow on specials guests and residents of the City.
"I am grateful to the Chamber of Commerce for their gift, which will allow this Administration to carry on this rich tradition," said Sarno.
Russell Denver, president of the Affiliated Chambers of Commerce will attend the event. Eastern Advertising Novelty of Indian Orchard made the keys. Steve Dinoia of Eastern Advertising will attend the press conference.
