September 26, 2008 - In recognition of the city’s numerous initiatives ensuring the health and well-being of the community, Mayor Domenic J. Sarno will be a featured guest at a Healthy Communities Summit taking place at Tufts University on Monday, Sept. 29.
The summit will focus on how health and well-being is essential to the economic future of cities and towns. Other featured guests include: Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone, Department of Public Health Commissioner John Auerbach and others. Walking advocate Mark Fenton, host of the new PBS series “America’s Walking” will deliver the keynote address. Lisa Erck from the Department of Public Health will lead a discussion on resources available to municipal leaders.
Sarno said his Administration is committed to enhancing the “Quality of Life” for Springfield residents and he is proud to share the city’s accomplishments with municipal representatives from throughout the state.
“There is a lot that other communities can learn by watching Springfield and I am proud to showcase our many initiatives, collaborations and programs,” he said. “At the same time, I’m eager to learn new ideas and bring those home, as well.”
Commissioner of Health and Human Services Helen Caulton Harris and Mayoral Aide Darryl Moss will accompany the mayor.
