Program Purpose/Mission/Objective

The purpose of the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is to provide useful, meaningful community service employment to eligible low-income, disadvantaged mature workers. The mission of SCSEP is to promote the transition of the enrollee from subsidized to unsubsidized employment. The major objective of the program is to address the needs commonly experienced by the low-income mature workers, which include the following:

  • additional income
  • re-entering the workforce
  • economic independence

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants who meet the following criteria will be considered for an assignment in the Senior Community Service Employment Program: a). 55 years of age or older; b). resident of Massachusetts; c). meet income guidelines; d). capable of performing the tasks outlined in the host agency's assignment description, placeability in non-subsidized employment in the future and agree to an active, continuous job search.

Program Enrollment

Senior Aides work 20 hours per week for the minimum wage rate at eligible public agencies and non-profit organizations. Program enrollment in the subsidized employment program is based on SCSEP eligibility criteria and the applicant's qualifications and competence for each position. No person shall on the grounds of race, creed, color, disability, national origin, gender, political affiliation, religious beliefs or sexual orientation be denied a work experience assignment.
