FY 2012 Tax Rates

The City of Springfield has set tax rates for FY 2012:
Residential Property Rate: $19.83 per $1,000 of value
Commercial/Industrial/Personal Property Rate: $39.99 per $1,000 of value

2012 Overvalue Applications

The last day to file Fiscal Year 2012 Overvalue Applications for Abatements on both Real and Personal Property valuations was February 1, 2012. This deadline cannot be extended or waived by the for any reason. If your application is not filed with the Office on time, you lose all rights to an abatement and, per Massachusetts General Laws, the cannot grant you one. An application is considered filed when received by the Assessors Office or mailed by US Mail, first class postage pre-paid to the proper address of the Assessors on or before February 1, 2012 as shown by the postmark made by the United States Postal Service.

FY 2012 Proposed Property Valuations

The Springfield Assessors office is providing these proposed Fiscal Year 2012 valuations in compliance with Massachusetts Department of Revenue value certification requirements. These are proposed valuations, pending preliminary certification.

The proposed valuations represent the estimate, as of January 1, 2011, of the full and fair cash value of each real estate parcel and personal property account in the city. The real estate value is based on the physical status and condition as of June 30, 2011 and market conditions as of January 1, 2011.

The proposed new values will be available for public review beginning Thursday, December 8, 2011 thru Wednesday December 14, 2011 on the City’s Web site www.springfieldcityhall.com , the Assessors Office (9AM- 4 PM M-F), City Collector’s Office and City Clerks Office (9AM-4PM M-F, TH to 6PM). The intent of this period is to correct any glaring errors or omissions in the proposed assessments.

Listings will also be available at all the branches of the Springfield Public Libraries circulation desk. Please contact the Springfield Library for hours of operation.
