City Hall Improvement Projects

Springfield’s original City Hall was built in 1855 for a cost of $75,000.  In January, 1905, an overturned kerosene lamp started a fire which destroyed the 2-story brick building.  In the early 1900's, architects Harvey Wiley Corbett, and F. Livingston Pell, designed the current City Hall using Greek Revival style architecture.

Due to the age of the building and the classical materials found throughout, constant maintenance and refurbishing is required.  Renovation projects use contemporary, energy efficient materials, while keeping features historically correct.
