Mission

The mission of Therapeutic Recreation at the Springfield Recreation Department is to provide opportunities for social interaction, skill development, and fun through programs for youth and adults who have a disability as well as promote awareness and integration.

Who is Therapeutic Recreation for?

We serve individuals with developmental delays, physical disabilities, and mental illnesses.

What is Therapeutic Recreation?

Therapeutic Recreation uses recreation and physical activity to engage or improve one’s functioning, independence, cognitive, physical and emotional well-being

How does Therapeutic Recreation help?

By strengthening basic motor functioning, building confidence, improving socialization, increasing physical activity, decreasing anxiety and depression.

Why is Therapeutic Recreation important?

Therapeutic Recreation promotes a healthy living lifestyle thereby allowing people to maintain wellness by helping themselves so they can enjoy life more every day.
