Community Health Nurse

SUMMARY:  

This is professional nursing work in the field of community health involving nursing duties in connection with a wide variety of community health services and clinics, communicable disease control, mass immunizations, health promotion, and related programs.  

  • Applying State and local public health laws and regulations.
  • Imparting health educational promotions in clinical or other settings.
  • Providing maternal hygiene and health care educational information and promotions.
  • Administering flu and pneumonia vaccinations to the public.
  • Ability to staff clinical settings.
  • Ability to promote communicable disease control and apply prescribed methods for such control.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES include, but are not limited to:  

  •  Working knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice.
  •  Establishing and maintaining effective customer service relations with the general public and co-workers.
  •  Ability to maintain thorough nursing records, and to prepare reports from same.
  •  Considerable skill in applying professional nursing techniques.

EDUCATION/PROFESSIONALCERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED:  

  •  Graduation from a recognized school of nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  •  Registration as a nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
  •  A valid Massachusetts license to operate motor vehicles.
