This commercial hub serves four urban neighborhoods along the State Street corridor with ethnic flair. The historic and vacant fire station located in the center of Mason square is owned by the city. The building has been vacant for nearly 20 years despite numerous attempts by the city to redevelop it. The city has committed $500,000 in an upcoming bond issue to assist in its redevelopment. In addition, the property sits in the center of the State Street Improvement area. This effort will include road reconstruction, improved lighting and streetscape amenities.
