In May 2008, Stop & Shop opened a new $4 million supermarket at the intersection of Cooley & Allen Streets. The new store in the Sixteen Acres neighborhood features 64,000 square feet of supermarket space with 8,000 square feet additional tenant space. Improvements have included the addition of pedestrian signals and crosswalks for enhanced pedestrian safety and efficiency. In addition there are new traffic signals, driveway consolidation, storm basin work, and the widening of Allen Street to improve traffic safety.
