Project Manager: Tina Quagliato, Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services
Project Location: Various sites throughout the City
Project Budget: $1.8 million Demolition Bond
Start Date: July 2005

Description:
This program aims at removing blight and improving the quality of life in the neighborhoods. In most cases, the properties have been vacant for years and have structural problems. Properties recommended for demolition are reviewed by the Structural Board before they are razed. In addition to setting aside $1.8 million for the demolition work, the Finance Control Board directed that the City place liens on the properties to recoup at least some of the cost, returning any proceeds back to the revolving fund.

There is also a "clean and lien" component of the program which cleans abandoned vacant lots throughout the City.

Project Status:

  • 831 properties have been cleaned to date since the start of the program
  • 9 properties are pending demolition
  • 73 buildings have been demolished to date since the start of the program
