Springfield Federal Building Re-Use

Project Manager: Brian Connors, Deputy Director of Economic Development
Project Location: Main Street (Between Bridge and Worthington Streets)
Property Owner: GSA - General Services Administration

Description:

The Federal Building is located in the heart of the Central Business District. Constructed in 1981, it contains five floors and 152,000 usable square feet. The building will become vacant in mid-summer 2008 when the new Federal Courthouse is completed on State Street. It is anticipated that the GSA will begin the disposal process in the fall of 2008.

Project Status:

In anticipation of the opening of the new $53 million Federal Courthouse on State Street in the Summer of 2008, the City and MassDevelopment are working with the GSA on re tenanting the existing Federal Building. Users being sought are institutional, educational and medical.

Institutional / Higher Education:

Springfield boosts a strong educational and medical network. Given the strength of these resources coupled with the city’s unique fiber optic capabilities the city believes that there is additional potential to build upon these assets.
