The City of Springfield Health and Human Services Department Office of Racial Equity in partnership with the Mission Inc., a nonprofit organization, are working together to continue to coordinate intervention and prevention initiatives for our most at risk youth. Working directly with members of the community to help address issues involving gang activity; poor school achievement; at risk behaviors such as alcohol, tobacco, violence, and substance abuse; and unemployment and workforce development, the coordinated efforts continue to help quell gang violence in our community.
Mayor Sarno stated, “I want to thank Brother Johnnie Muhammad and the Mission Inc. for their continued efforts and outreach aspects as we continue ‘taking it to the streets’. Commissioner Caulton-Harris and I support the Mission’s efforts to proactively help mediate and defuse potential gang and youth violence. Just as important, they help to intervene to steer these individuals in question towards positive paths of education and workforce development aspects.”
