|   City News

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Mayoral Aide Lavar Click-Bruce joined with Art for the Soul Gallery Executive Director Rosemary Tracy Woods and Gateway Cities Coordinator Jeannette River of La Diaspora in Chicopee and Damany and Theresa Gordon of Genuine Culture in Holyoke for a special transformational Arts and Cultural project announcement between the three Gateway cities. The project is made possible thanks to grand funding by MassDevelopment.

Chicopee Mayor Vieau’s Chief of Staff Michael Pise, MassDevelopment VP of Community Investment Richard Griffin, Tower Square and Business Owner Dinesh Patel and Armoury Quadrangle Civic Association President Betsy Johnson were also on hand for the announcement.

Mayor Sarno states, “My administration fully supports our cities arts and culture and this project, thanks to grant funding by MassDevelopment, will bring the creative talents from the three Gateway Cities of Springfield Chicopee and Holyoke to dispel the stigma of skateboarding and help promote its recreational benefits and promote safety.  In February 2022, our Springfield Parks Commission voted unanimously to approve a proposal that Parks, Buildings and Recreation Management (PBRM) Director Patrick Sullivan and I submitted for the City to build a new bike and skateboard park by the Springfield Boys and Girls Club.  Additional, last year, I issued a mayoral proclamation recognizing National Go Skateboarding Day in the City of Springfield to help promote and encourage the safe and respectful enjoyment of this recreational activity for our youth.”
